Our Doctors
![]() Dr. Joseph Canu, DC, Owner / FounderIt took a broken back—his own, in fact—to change Joseph Canu’s childhood aspirations from dentistry to chiropractic. “I was an eighth-grade quarterback and suffered a severe head and lower back injury,” he recalls. “Over a couple of months I thought I got better, but the pain returned years later when I was in pre-med at Oakland University. No one could help.” Canu’s older brother Gary, a celebrated Detroit high school athlete, urged him to see a chiropractor. “I thought they were glorified masseuses. But I went to one, and what he said all made sense, about the structure of the human frame and misalignment; about nutrition, exercise, vitamins and prevention. And it was like a light came on; this is what I needed all the time. I had amazing results; I was totally better in a few weeks. And the more I looked into chiropractic, the more I loved it.” After graduating in 1985 from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa (the world’s first and leading chiropractic school), Canu interned under the chief surgeon at Crittenton Hospital in Rochester, Mich. “When I opened my own practice, he sent me patients who were considering disc surgery. It was my forte at the time; I’d taken a lot of extra seminars and training, not only on chiropractic but on nutrition, strength, Pilates and stretching, mostly because my own back was starting to become a problem again. I was bending over patients and twisting all day, exactly what I told my patients they shouldn’t do. So I became a better doctor as a result of my own medical problem.” “Dr. Joe” and his Rochester Chiropractic Clinic have since become renowned for offering a unique formula of incomparable care, from cutting-edge technology to remedies that date back to the Bible. “Our digital x-ray machine is very low exposure,” he notes, “with crystal-clean images that we can see right in the examination room. It’s a great tool to give us a richer understanding of what goes on in the body.” Not a fan of over-the-counter vitamins, Canu cautions that, “the label says what they have, but are you absorbing and assimilating it? Are the chemo-receptors on your cells taking in the nutrients? That’s totally different. Foods in their natural state haven’t been heated or over-concentrated. Taking the whole food supplements we offer really enhances and complements the amount and the speed of improvement and recovery.” He has recently introduced his patients to the benefits of “healthy chocolate,” a line of raw chocolate products high in antioxidants and loaded with vitamins, minerals and nutrients. “It hasn’t been cooked, processed, heated, concentrated or compressed,” he explains, “so the molecules haven’t been cleaved or distorted, as happens with most vitamins, which can actually cause arthritis, kidney stones and gall stones.” As for consulting Scripture for medical guidance, Canu says that “modern science is now proving the efficacy and healing abilities of essential oils, ancient wisdom right from the Old Testament. I’ve been looking at this for 15 years, testing it on myself, and just recently have started incorporating it into our practice. The molecules of these oils are small enough to not only penetrate the skin, but also to enter into the cells themselves and begin the healing. There are over 500 references to essential oils in the Scriptures, and I have a lot of faith and confidence in them.” He also has a lot of faith in his faith. “I do believe that we are all spiritual beings. So we try to treat the emotional, the spiritual and the physical. If we only treat one of them, we’re missing two-thirds of the healing equation. And I’m always happy to pray with my patients.” |

Our Massage Therapists
![]() Cathy Katz – Massage TherapistHi, I’m Cathy Katz. I guess my claim to fame is having actually worked with Mother Teresa helping orphans in India, which I did after having served as Miss Detroit. They were both, in their own ways, richly fulfilling experiences. Back home, I’ve been with RCC since 1998 and in traditional medical fields for over 35 years. I enjoy singing and acting in Rochester’s community theatre, but I get the most satisfaction “performing” for an audience of one—the latest patient on my massage table. |
![]() Renee Turner – Massage TherapistHi, I’m Renee Turner. I pretty much grew up right here in this office watching my uncle, Dr. Joe, provide blessed relief and guidance to his patients. I’ve worked here and in New York City as a chiropractic assistant. I’m also a singer/actress. I’ve performed at Meadow Brook and other local theatres, and sing with a band called Rio and the Rockabilly Revival, which has received airplay all around the world. |
![]() Linda Grenier – Massage TherapistI was introduced to massage therapy through a recovery regimen after a car accident. Amazed at the strength the bodywork gave to my healing, I left my career as a paralegal and searched for a school of excellence. In 1997 I graduated from a 1000 hour Therapeutic Massage program at Health Enrichment Center, and have since been working as a full time massage therapist. I am Nationally Certified in Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) as well as State Licensed and Board Certified. I understand that every person presents with unique challenges as well as preferences with respect to massage therapy as part of their own healing process and as such, approach each session with a goal to hone into the needs of each client. As a firm believer in the inseparable connection between body and mind, I find massage therapy a viable tool for enhancing overall health and well being. Simply said, I love my work! |
